Another variety to the salad recipes you already have in your list. This Yam Taeng or Spicy Cucumber Thai Salad is a vegetable salad of different flavors and ingredients combined in a single bowl.

Yam Taeng is a Thai veggie salad composed mainly of cucumber, dried shrimp, Thai chilies and fish sauce. This salad offers variety of taste, color and texture in a bowl making your bowls extraordinary.

To Recipe

Ingredients

  • Cucumber: As the main ingredient, makes this salad a bit crispy but tender.
  • Dried Shrimp: Gives flavor to this salad.
  • Long Beans: Additional vegetable.
  • Cherry Tomatoes: Extra veggie and flavor.
  • Thai Chili: Makes this spicy.
  • Palm Sugar: Sweetness balances the overall flavor.
  • Fish Sauce: To season.
  • Lime Juice: Gives more acidic taste.
  • Roasted Peanuts: Adds to crunch and flavor.

Preparation

  1. Mix: In a medium bowl, toss the toss the sliced cucumbers, dried shrimp, beans, and cherry tomatoes; In a small bowl, combine the Thai chilies, palm sugar, fish sauce, and lime juice.
  2. Combine: Toss the two mixture together. Season to taste.
  3. Serve: Sprinkle the crushed peanuts then serve.

Tips and Variations

This may originally be spicy but can come as plain by removing the Thai chillies.

Storage

  • In the fridge: In an airtight container, place the salad then put in the fridge. This is best for 2-3 days.
  • Freeze: Freezing this is not advisable for the cucumber will lose the crunch.

Serves: 4 servings

  • 3 cucumbers - sliced, julienne or grated
  • 3 tbsp dried shrimp
  • 300 g long beans, thinly sliced and mashed
  • 2 tbsp fish sauce
  • 5 cherry tomatoes,cut in half
  • 5 Thai chilies, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp palm sugar
  • 3 tbsp roasted peanuts, crushed
  • 1 lime, juiced

Instructions
